The most common cause for fungal infections in the nail is by either developing athlete’s foot or coming into contact with someone who has athlete’s foot. Untreated fungal skin infections can spread to nails and other areas of the body.
To prevent getting a fungal infection, we recommend the following:
- Keep your feet clean and dry.
- Wear clean socks every day.
- Refrain from sharing personal items with others.
- Keep your nails short.
- Avoid cutting your cuticles.
- Wear comfortable and clean shoes that do not have high heels or narrow toes.
